The Marais de Montmagny park wins a 2024 Excellence award

Inaugurated in October 2023, the Marais park development project is the 2024 recipient of the Excellence award in the “Municipalities or districts of 10,000 to 24,999 inhabitants” category from the Association québécoise du Loisir Municipal (AQLM). The awards ceremony took place on October 3 at the Bonaventure Hotel in Montreal.

The Marais park development and preservation project won the favor of the jury among the thirteen applications submitted in the same category. It stood out in particular thanks to its environmental and social impact. In addition to preserving a fragile ecosystem and protecting various endangered animal species, the project was able to mobilize the Magnymont community, particularly that of educational establishments.

More than 400 primary school children took part in one of the different stages of the project. Educational activities aimed at raising students’ awareness of the ecosystem, its fauna and flora as well as the planned developments and their own impact on the environment took place upstream and throughout the project thanks to the involvement of Jérémie Caron, biologist and project manager for the ZIP Committee of the South of the Estuary at that time.

Conferences also made it possible to raise awareness among specific clienteles, including users of community gardens, municipal employees and members of the Richelieu Montmagny club. General public activities also took place, which made it possible to inform, raise awareness and put citizens into action.

This project is linked to the aspirations of the Strategic reflection 2020-2025 of the City of Montmagny and is part of a vast development plan which includes three loops in four sectors going from the river station to the Pointe-à-Lacaille archaeological site.
