New works to be planned in the heart of Paris. This Friday, October 11, 2024, during the Paris Council, David Belliard, deputy mayor in charge of the transformation of public space, transport, street code and roads, indicated that the Bir Hakeim footbridge , closed urgently this summer, was going to be soon to be replaced.

The work should be completed in March 2025

“A contract was notified in September for the replacement project which should probably begin late October or early November“, he declared in comments relayed by The Parisian.

On August 10, the steel pedestrian bridge which adjoins the structure spanning the Seine between the 16th and 15th arrondissementshad been closed urgently by the Paris Police headquarters.

During the marathon for all of the 2024 Olympics, many spectators went to this footbridge to see the runners. Several of them had reported that bolts were missing and that the structure was “rocking dangerously”, explained Le Figaro at that time.

“The duty architect intervened during the night from Saturday to Sunday (August 10 to 11) at the Bir-Hakeim footbridge, following the observation of a falling boltconfirmed the police headquarters to Paris news. Taking into account the findings, a barrier was installed, neutralizing access to the footbridge. »

Already in 2021the footbridge had been weakened after a municipal vehicle had hit it.

The work should last approximately six months and should not cause any complications for local residents. Alone Kenedy Avenue will be closed, but only at night.
