The social network TikTok announced on Friday the elimination of hundreds of jobs around the world in order to redirect resources devoted to moderating its content towards automated solutions, in particular artificial intelligence (AI).

A spokesperson for the short video platform explained that this approach aims to improve the moderation of online content by relying particularly on automated solutions.

“We plan to invest two billion dollars globally in trust and safety during 2024 and we continue to improve the effectiveness of our efforts, with 80% of content in violation (of the rules) now deleted by automated technologies,” the same source said in a statement.

TikTok had indicated, in a note published on its site in November 2023, that it had “thousands of employees” spread across “six continents”.

The platform owned by Chinese company ByteDance uses a combination of human moderators and automated detection tools to analyze content posted by its users and remove it if necessary.
