French actor Pierre Vernier has died Wednesday October 9, according to information from Figaro confirmed by AFP this Saturday October 12. In the same promotion as Jean-Paul Belmondo, his “friend” at the Conservatory of Dramatic Art with Jean and Jean-Pierre Marielle, he was 93 years old.

Born in 1931 in Charente-Maritime, Pierre Vernier was known for his title role in the soap opera Swiss rolldirected by Jean-Pierre Decourt in the 1960s. Prolific actorhe had appeared in around sixty films, including a good number of popular successes alongside his friend Bébel, such as The professional (1981) or Itinerary of a spoiled child (1988, in the role of a priest). “Be careful, I also exist without him!”he had fun saying in 2001 about the man he considered to be “professional conscience incarnate”.

Made an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters and Knight of the National Order of Merit in 2016, Pierre Vernier also played General de Gaulle in 2008 in a TV movie. He will be rewarded for this role at the Luchon and Monaco festivals.

The actor was also under the direction of François Ozon for his film Under the sand (2000) or even Valérie Lemercier in 100% Cashmere (2013) et Marie-Francinereleased in 2017. In the theater, Pierre Vernier had played under the direction of Raymond Rouleau, Georges Wilson, Jean-Louis Barrault and Roger Planchon.

Pierre Vernier was also very involved until the end of his life in the associative and charitable sector, underlined those around him.
