a pro-Palestinian movement, so far critical of the Biden administration, comes out clearly against Donald Trump

They don’t go so far as to support Kamala Harris, but it’s still a relief for Democrats. One month before the American presidential election, a large pro-Palestinian movement, until now very critical of Joe Biden’s policy in the Middle East, spoke out firmly on Tuesday October 8 against Republican Donald Trump.

In a video posted on social networks, the movement “Uncommitted” warns that Middle East policy “could be worse” under a Trump presidency. Voters must favor the “best approach against war”says Lexi Zeidan, one of the co-founders of the group.

“The 2025 Project [programme réactionnaire porté par les ultraconservateurs] “Trump is not just a policy, it is a plan for more violence and repression, both in Palestine and here in the United States.” also underlines the message, ensuring that “Trump allies openly push for the destruction of Palestinian human rights and the silencing of those who fight back.”

This position is a potential boost for the Democrats who fear losing the votes of part of the left wing of the party and voters of Arab origin since the bloody Hamas attack of October 7, 2023 and the Israel’s devastating offensive in Gaza that followed it.

Kamala Harris in an awkward position

This group, which mainly relies on an electorate of Arab origin or from Muslim communities, emerged during demonstrations against President Joe Biden’s support for Israel despite the heavy human toll and the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. .

Since taking over from Joe Biden in the presidential race, Vice-President Kamala Harris has played a very delicate role. The Democratic candidate cannot openly break with the line supported by the president, but she is well aware that it could cost her votes on November 5, particularly among the large Arab community in Michigan, one of the states more contested in an election which promises to be very close.

Kamala Harris vowed to fight for Palestinian rights “to dignity, freedom, security and self-determination”. But she ruled out any embargo on arms intended for Israel, with the United States remaining by far its first and main military supporter.
