In the commune of Touba-Mosquée, after emergency management aimed at evacuating rainwater from the city, and finding temporary shelters to rehouse the victims, the government launched yesterday Friday the cash transfer intended to support 4,000 households victims of flooding in the religious city, informs LeSoleil-Digital.

Through the Ministry of Family and Solidarity, the ceremony chaired by the governor of the Diourbel region Ibrahima Fall, took place at the sub-prefecture of Ndame, in the presence of several authorities, including the representative of the National Solidarity Fund and several beneficiary households.

The objective of this meeting was to officially launch financial transfer operations to those affected following the heavy rainfall on the night of September 16 to 17, 2024, causing flooding in several neighborhoods of Touba. Two beneficiaries symbolically received the allocated amounts before the administrative authorities,

In Touba, the evacuation of rainwater was the priority; then it was necessary to carry out a census of the victims with a commission set up and the file was then sent to the Ministry of Family and Solidarity. The State of Senegal long before that had come to the aid of the victims with all the necessary compassion.

According to the same source, the financial transfer started on Friday with 2,007 people and each selected household received support varying between 100,000 CFA francs and 200,000 CFA francs depending on the nature of the damage noted by the census commission. All for a provisional envelope of 378.8 million CFA francs taking into account the envelope of 3 billion CFA francs from the World Bank intended for the project, according to regional governor Ibrahima Fall.

Baïdy Niang, general director of the National Solidarity Fund, recognizes that apart from reactions of support and compassion among others, “we are proceeding as announced with financial transfers between 100,000 Fcfa and 200,000 Fcfa, substantial amounts which can be useful.” And Mr. Niang hopes that with the support of the authorities, the amount can increase, but also make it possible to broaden the field of beneficiaries who are victims of the floods in Touba and everywhere else in the country.
