Jeanne Barseghian, mayor of Strasbourg, and Pia Imbs, president of the Strasbourg Eurometropolis, react to the death of Guy-Dominique Kennel, former president of the Bas-Rhin Department and former senator.

“In my name and that of the City of Strasbourg, I express my emotion at the announcement of the disappearance of Guy-Dominique Kennel. Deeply attached to Alsace and the Department of Bas-Rhin, he chaired the latter with the desire to unite territories without ever seeking to oppose them and this message must remain more relevant than ever. It also leaves a deep imprint in Strasbourg, through an emblematic institution of the city. indeed, for the Departmental Council of Bas-Rhin, the great architect of the Vaisseau project opened in 2005, wanted by Philippe Richert, who entrusted it with its destiny. This formidable tool for discovering sciences and techniques now allows 170. 000 people per year, mainly children and young people, to have fun and intelligent access to scientific culture Strasbourg and Alsace are rightly grateful”, underlines Jeanne Barseghian, mayor of Strasbourg.

“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Guy-Dominique Kennel yesterday. A life of service to our territory made him a great Alsatian. He presided over the Bas-department with talent and commitment. Rhine from 2008 to 2015 and also determinedly carried the voice of Alsace in the Senate until 2020. A man of convictions, he was able to be respected by everyone, thanks to his qualities of listening and dialogue. On a personal level, I have always been able to count on his availability and his kindness, cordial, very human, open to debate, Guy-Dominique Kennel was part of this great lineage of Rhineland humanism which is the pride and singularity of our Region, on behalf of the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg, I offer my most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones”, said Pia Imbs, President of the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg.
