A remarkable appearance… Monday May 20, 2024, an audience of stars set foot the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival on the occasion of the presentation of the film The Apprentice, directed by Ali Abbasi. As a reminder, this film looks back on the rise of Donald Trump during the first years of his career, notably thanks to a pact with the conservative lawyer and political matchmaker Roy Cohn.

For the occasion, Cate Blanchett wore a haute couture dress designed by Haider Ackermann for Jean-Paul Gaultier, which she accompanied with a pearl and diamond necklace from the Louis Vuitton brand. On the makeup side, it was Armani who had sublimated it. On Instagram, many Internet users complimented her look. “She’s lovely!” ; “So beautiful” ; “I didn’t think it was possible to fall in love with her even more”we can read.

Cate Blanchett: “Cannes is unique and spectacular”

In 2018, the actress who notably played in The Lord of the Rings, Aviator, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Blue Jasmine, was president of the 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival. At the microphone of Léa Salamé, on France Inter, she then declared: “Cannes is unique and spectacular. There are a lot of risks for directors, until the last minute, it’s almost impossible to know who will be the best”.

Six years ago already, Cate Blanchett spoke about the Me Too movement in the cinema industry. “Compared to Harvey Weinstein, I think it is extremely important that changes are made, we must include women, seek diversity”she indicated before adding: “I said to Thierry Fremaux: ‘Whatever your selection, there must be an equal number of women and men‘. He told me that would be the case.”.
