A 16-year-old minor, suspected of having announced on social networks his intention to make an explosive belt and die a martyr, was in police custody this Wednesday, a police Source told AFP, confirmed by the national prosecutor’s office anti-terrorism (Pnat).
The “desire to make an explosive belt” published on the networks
The Pnat opened an investigation this Wednesday for “participation in a criminal terrorist association with a view to preparing crimes of attacks against persons following the arrest (Tuesday) of a young man aged 16 and originally from Haute-Savoie.
The teenager was arrestedfollowing his statements on social networks announcing his desire to manufacture an explosive belt with a view to dying as a martyr“, specified the anti-terrorism prosecution.
A written “allegiance to the Islamic State”
During the search of his parents’ home, “various handwritten documents including a declaration of allegiance to (the organization) Islamic State“were discovered, said the police Source. According to this same Source, the teenager admitted to having planned to commit a “suicidal terrorist action” in Defense during the Olympic Games, with a rifle or an explosive belt.
The minor followed for his radicalization
His police custody, which was still in progress on Wednesday, “aims to determine, with regard to the personality of the person in custody, the reality of the planned terrorist act and, if applicable, its state of completion“, specified the Pnat.
The minor was being monitored for his radicalization, added the police Source. The investigations were entrusted to the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI). Anti-terrorism magistrates are concerned about the increasing appearance in recent months of adolescents in cases involving violent action plans.
