For a few hours, live in the time of the knights, compete in tournaments in the moats of the Rohan castle in Pontivy: the Medieval Day, this Sunday, September 22, makes you want to travel back in time.

The activities will mainly take place at the back and sides of the castle, because the construction site, occupied by monumental scaffolding, will be off-limits. At the back, demonstrations of medieval artistic fencing, as well as initiations will be provided by Pontivy Escrime. They will also reveal the life of a camp. Then, it will be possible to admire the tournaments and entertainment of Obliti Milites and the Mesnie du Penhoët. “The little knight’s tournament is dedicated to children: you have to bring down the opposing king. They should like it, don’t hesitate to suggest it to your children”, specifies Laudrenn Wolffer, heritage officer for the City.

What’s new

The program includes new features: Marthe Rougieux and her illumination workshops, a thirty-minute introduction to discovering the secrets of the colorist and stencil of the Middle Ages. Or: the Maisnie de Castelnau, with a stroll, camp life and historical cuisine, it will also be a journey through the political life of the court. Come and learn the customs and traditions, get to know the backstage of power and their anecdotes. We will also have a dive into the world of great discoveries, marking the entry into the modern era. Hunting and war training will complete the entertainment,” explains the project manager.

The archers of Bro Waroc’h are always impressive in their camp, and the Échoppe du Griffon noir provides medieval catering, visitors will be able to taste Lolo’s pancakes on the stands. In the courtyard of the castle, games and models will be available for children.
