Heavy rains that hit the holy city of Touba have caused devastating floods, killing two people and dumping more than 140mm of water in just 24 hours.

Faced with the scale of the damage, the authorities mobilized reinforcements, calling on firefighters from the Thiès and Diourbel regions to come to the aid of the disaster-stricken populations.

These rains particularly affected several neighborhoods of the city, including the surroundings of the Great Mosque of Touba, a highly symbolic place. The floods not only disrupted residents, but also endangered local infrastructure.

In response to this crisis, the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Dr Cheikh Tidiane Dieye, quickly went to the scene. His visit aimed to assess the damage and coordinate relief operations.

He wanted to reassure the population about the mobilization of relief efforts, particularly through the deployment of firefighters who came to lend a hand. The minister also announced the implementation of emergency measures to limit the risks of further flooding.
