Hard-hitting Rongier, the Le Havre defense in difficulty… The tops and the flops

OM played their football by easily beating 5-1 this Sunday. Find out what caught the attention of the editorial staff.

TOPS

Rongier man of the match

He flew through the match. Valentin Rongier was the best Marseillais and even the best player of the match. He first opened the scoring with a superb low strike from the edge of the area in the 25th minute. Before this goal and afterwards, he did what he does best, that is to say regulate the game in the middle and offer balls to his attackers Maupay and Greenwood. Released in the 74th minute and replaced by Jonathan Rowe, Rongier confirmed that he was an essential link in Roberto De Zerbi's system.

Decisive Nadir

Established for the second time in his career in Ligue 1 and for the first time this season, Bilal Nadir had to prove that Roberto De Zerbi was right to trust him. The young Moroccan succeeded in his match which looked like a test. Despite his yellow card and a slight decline in his game, the 21-year-old scored the second of his team's five goals with a superb strike. Exited in the 46th minute and replaced by Ismaël Koné, the Moroccan has a good chance of playing again in the coming weeks with OM.

Greenwood in great shape

Scorer in three of his last four matches, Mason Greenwood confirmed his current good form this Sunday. The attacking midfielder made numerous offerings to his teammates, Maupay, Garcia and even Luis Henrique, who knew how to take advantage of them. Passer for the fourth goal, that of Wahi, the English player made his first assist in two and a half months in Ligue 1. A way of continuing his good momentum and consolidating his starting place in Roberto De Zerbi's 11.

FLOPS

The Le Havre defense in pain

They were expecting a difficult evening and they should not have been surprised. Facing the second in the championship, the three-way defense – made up of Lloris, Youte Kinkoué and Pembélé – suffered and was overwhelmed as soon as the attackers tried to create danger. The trio seemed to hold together for the first 25 minutes of play before conceding Rongier's first goal. The start of a long nightmare for the Norman defense which seemed to be one step behind on each Marseille occasion. Didier Digard's men will have to fight if they want to hope to maintain their position.

Zouaoui in difficulty

While its defense struggled, the Le Havre midfielder also suffered this Sunday. Among his midfielders, Yanis Zouaoui was one of the most struggling players. Usually a defender, the young Frenchman was exceptionally placed in the middle by his coach Didier Digard. Placed alongside Touré and Kuzyaev, the 26-year-old was unable to do anything against the incessant Marseille waves. He only offered very rare balls to his attackers Ayew and Housni. To see if Digard will offer him his chance again in the matches to come…
