The weather situation was complicated during the night of Saturday January 4 to Sunday January 5, particularly in the east and north of France. Many road accidents are to be deplored.
The sidewalks have become ice rinks. Throughout the north and east of France, a thick layer of ice appeared during the evening of Saturday January 4, with its share of slowdowns on the roads. The Dijon ring road was severely disrupted from the start of the evening.
In Côte-d'Or, the toll of firefighters is heavy. A total of 16 accidents were recorded, including 11 on the highway. “We had around forty interventions which were carried out between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m. The toll is heavy with 64 victims, including one deceased,” said a rescuer.
A pileup between three vehicles took place on the A6, south of Beaune (Côte-d'Or) and near Merceuil (Côte-d'Or). A driver, aged 20, did not survive, while four other people were slightly injured.
By the end of yesterday, the salt spreaders were hard at work and level two of the ice snow plan was activated as in Île-de-France. The orange snow and ice alert has been lifted across the country.
