In 2023, Marcel Canet took on a role in the feature film directed by his father, Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom. Barely 13 years old, the son of Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet expressed his interest in comedy to his parents. In 50′ insideGuillaume Canet discusses his fears regarding the career choice of his first child: “It's a very difficult job, which often requires you to question yourself, it can sometimes be hard to cope with.“, he explains, before continuing : “At the same time, he is at the right school because he has parents who have good heads on their shoulders. We live like normal people and that's the best school for him, I think.“, he says about their daily life. Facing Isabelle Ithurburu, he confides that having famous parents is not necessarily an asset for their son who wants to become an actor: “I don't think it's an advantage, more of a disadvantage. there can be very high expectations from people and it's not certain that they will always want to do that either. I think that's fun for him, he'll probably want to do something else and so much the better“, he concludes.

In the same interview, Guillaume Canet also spoke about his feelings after seeing his son take his first steps on screen, alongside him: “It was great, extremely stressful, but he wanted it. From the moment he wanted it, we were obliged to give him a leg up and I would just as much prefer it to happen with me.” The actor is very protective of his child: “Then we monitor it closely because it’s a little young to start,” he nuances.
