Since October 30, 2024, Uber has launched Uber for teens in France. This recent product was designed to allow young people aged 13 to 17 to travel without being accompanied by their parents. Real-time monitoring allows them to be informed in real time of the journey of their offspring. The service may be particularly useful on December 31.
On the eve of Halloween 2024, Uber launched an application for teenagers in 13 French cities: Amiens, Angers, Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, MontpellierNantes, Nice, Paris and the Paris region, PerpignanStrasbourg and Toulouse.
This service, simply called Uber for Teens, allows young people aged 13 to 17 to order their own trips without being accompanied.
Parents can supervise travel using “custom security features”, exposes the Uber site.
Children, invited by their parents, can create a specialized Uber account via their family profile.
Real-time tracking
Real-time monitoring is made available to parents. They also receive the driver's name, vehicle information and requested destination, so they know exactly where their teen is going and who is behind the wheel.
Before a teenager gets into the car, they must give the driver a unique PIN code. “Drivers cannot start the journey until they enter the correct code into their app, providing additional protection to ensure the teenager gets into the correct car with the correct driver”underlines the company on its site.
GPS sensors and data can detect if the route deviates or stops unexpectedly.
Driver available
Parents can contact the driver at any time during the journey. Only experienced drivers with the highest ratings can receive ride requests from teen accounts.
On this New Year's Eve, this service will surely be useful to families, including those of Montpellier et Perpignan for the region Occitanie.
