The Colombian pilot David Alonso (CFMoto) has achieved victory, his fourteenth of the season, in the Moto3 race of the Barcelona Solidarity Grand Prixthe last round of the motorcycle World Championship and which is held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, a new record performance to command the last podium of the year ahead of the Spanish Dani Holgado (GasGas), who guaranteed the runner-up position, and Ángel Piqueras (Honda), while Arón Canet (Kalex) achieved victory in Moto2 against Manu González (Kalex).
The Colombian, who had already won the title weeks ago, closed his spectacular season in style, with a new victory and two new records. No rider in any category in the history of the World Championship had achieved 14 wins in a single campaign, and his seventh consecutive victory in the category allows him to surpass Valentino Rossi’s record in 125 cc in 1997.
Meanwhile, Holgado finished second and thus achieved the runner-up position in the small displacement – he arrived at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya tied on points with the Dutchman Collin Veijer (Husqvarna), who was tenth -, and Piqueras, fourth at the finish line, climbed into the third place on the podium due to a three-second penalty for Adrián Fernández (Honda) -finally eleventh- for skipping turns 1 and 2 in the last lap.
Off the podium and taking into account Fernández’s sanction, José Antonio Rueda (KTM) finished fifth; David Muñoz (KTM) – also penalized with one place for irresponsible driving – finished sixth; Iván Ortolá (KTM) was ninth; Adrián Fernández, eleventh; David Almansa (Honda), fourteenth; debutant Álvaro Carpe (KTM), nineteenth; and Xabi Zurutuza (KTM), twenty-first.
CANET, FOURTH TRIUMPH IN MOTO2
Afterwards, Arón Canet achieved his fourth victory of the year in a race in which he recovered from a bad start and in which he dominated with a firm hand to lead a podium completed by his compatriot Manu González (Kalex) and the Brazilian Diofo Moreira (Kalex).
This result allows the Valencian, who waved the flag of the Valencian Community after crossing the finish line in tribute to all those affected by DANAbecoming the rider with the most victories of the season, surpassing the three of the champion Ai Ogura (Boscoscuro), the Spanish Fermín Aldeguer (Boscoscuro) – who will move up to MotoGP – and the Italian Celestino Vietti (Kalex).
Despite his disastrous start, which led him to go from first to tenth position, Canet managed to make up for it and recover at a fast lap pace. In the fifth lap, the one from Corbera overtook Manu González (Kalex), who had taken command, and went on to command the event, ready to dedicate the victory to his countrymen in this solidarity Grand Prix.
Calm settled on the grid, which was running more or less under control, with Canet in front and the Madrid native trying to follow his wheel, while the already Japanese Ai Ogura led the chasing group. Little by little, the leader strengthened his advantage and crossed the finish line without any problems.
As for the rest of the Spaniards, Sergio García Dols (Boscoscuro) completed the test sixth, ahead of Izan Guevara (Kalex), Albert Arenas (Kalex), Alonso López (Boscoscuro) and Fermín Aldeguer (Boscoscuro), who closed the ‘Top 10’.
Additionally, Marcos Ramírez (Kalex) finished twelfth; Jaume Masià (Kalex) was fifteenth; Dani Muñoz (Kalex) finished nineteenth, ahead of Alex Escrig (Forward); and Xavi Artigas (Forward), twenty-fourth. Jorge Navarro (Kalex) and Roberto García (Kalex) went to the ground and couldn’t finish.
