Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the hostages would be “saved” and residents of the north of the country would return home, while guaranteeing the “eternity” of the Jewish state. In a video statement, Netanyahu expressed his condolences to the families of the eight Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers who died since the start of the ground operation launched in Lebanon on the night of September 30-October 30.

“I would like to send my most sincere condolences to the families of our heroes who fell today in Lebanon, may God avenge them and may their memory be a blessing,” said the Prime Minister. “We are in the middle of a bitter war against the axis of evil Iran, which seeks to destroy us. This will not happen,” Netanyahu continued, “because we will remain united and, with God’s help, we will win together.”

Seven other Israeli soldiers died in the fighting after crossing the demarcation line into Lebanon. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) report this on their website. The soldiers killed belonged to the Egoz special unit, the Yahalam unit and the Golani brigade. The number of Israeli soldiers killed in combat thus rose to eight after the launch of the land operation in Lebanon between September 30 and October 30.

Earlier, the pro-Iranian Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah announced that it had targeted a unit of Israeli forces with an explosive device in the locality of Yaroun, located in the Bint Jbeil district of Nabatiye governorate in southern Lebanon, near the dividing line with Israel. According to a statement published on Hezbollah’s Telegram channel, “all members” of the Israeli military unit in question were “killed or injured.”
