It can be seen from the oyster cliffs of Sainte-Croix-du-Mont, on the other side of the Garonne. Impossible to confuse it with any other. Its bell tower is covered with a prestigious copper dome. Saint-Vincent Church in Preignac, in Gironde, today deserves the full attention of the heritage foundation.
This true jewel of religious heritage of South Gironde is also the house where one of the founders of Yquem, Pierre Sauvage, rests. From its architecture to its history, it is impossible to let the building deteriorate.
We appeal to lovers of the church of Preignac
Despite major work undertaken since the 1980s on the framework, the roof, the exterior masonry, the facade, the bell tower, and the complete reconstruction of the dome, it is now necessary to tackle the last phase of the work. It relates to the restoration of the stained glass windows and the renovation of the choir decorations. “This is where we call on lovers of the church of Preignac,” says Mayor Thomas Filliatre. We know that it is difficult for the Preignacais to make a donation, but if companies and castles want to help, they are welcome. Thanks to the subscription with the heritage foundation, these donations are tax-exempt. Today, you should know that we have fewer subsidies, even if we must be around 60% of the overall amount. »
20 years ago, the bell tower threatened to collapse and the church association could directly receive donations. This is no longer how it works.
With the traffic on the 113, it is urgent to act to secure the stained glass windows
The architects of the heritage foundation will be able to lend a hand to the municipality to accelerate “this project which has been dragging on since 2017” recognizes the councilor. “With the traffic on the 113, it is urgent to act to secure the stained glass windows. Passing cars cause vibrations, they are not at all secure. At the slightest impact, they will break,” continues the mayor of Preignac.
No work on the stained glass windows since…1860
Since their creation in the 1860s, the stained glass windows had not undergone any restoration. Today, it is in a degraded general condition with very old seals, cracked parts, oxidation, and a total lack of protection and ventilation.
Project cost
The cost of the work is 315,222 euros. Collection objective: 15,000 euros. A participation form or an online prize pool allows you to participate in this project, which is tax deductible.
“The stained glass restoration work includes re-leading, cleaning, replacing missing, damaged or broken parts, as well as correcting damaged paint and applying putty,” explain the foundation’s architects. To make a contribution, even with a small gesture, go to the online kitty opened by the heritage foundation.
