Atari, Game Cube, NES, these names probably don’t mean much to the younger among you, but if you grew up in the 1980s, these consoles probably rocked your childhood.

At Animu, the Porto-Vecchio media library, the Sud Corse Retrogaming association organized for the 9th time this January 4 a day of discovery around these old video games.

Charly Picciocchi is at the origin of the event with his association “I am passionate about video games, I collect them. I was a big gamer growing up. I took over because of my nephews in the early 2010s and we started looking for old consoles we had at home and miraculously, they worked.” he says with emotion. He therefore decided to set up this day to allow parents and their children to come together around a common activity.

An initiative that seems to please the hundred or so people who came to enjoy the entertainment throughout the day. Like Aline Collado, many of them traveled as a family: “It’s a handover, it allows them to discover what we grew up with. It shows them that we could have fun with these kinds of games.” she testifies. His son, Anton-Francescu, is marked by the advancement of technology: “These consoles aren’t that old, it’s incredible to see the evolution” the teenager comments.

These days are also an opportunity to discuss games, and to understand the world in which young people operate, by sharing feelings and thoughts: “Playing together allows you to channel confinement and overflow. We remain vigilant, we play together, we must not be closed off.”, explain Aline Collado.

We cannot confine them to prohibitions; prohibitions are more dangerous. It’s better to be there, to discuss, to share with them, there is never zero risk, but we can moderate.

A family activity, where young and old were able to enjoy old video game consoles, but also arcade machines and board games. In a few weeks, the association is organizing another more substantial event: the third edition of Corsica Games Week from March 1 to 2, 2025 at the Prunellu Sports Complex in Porto-Vecchio. On the program: conference on artificial intelligence, video game tournament or meeting with developers.
