The Île-de- Mobilités application has been breaking records since the Olympics and Navigo on iPhone

Recently updated with a new map, the Île-de- Mobilités application has continued to gain momentum since the Olympic Games. Numerama met with its designers to discuss the future of the application.

Calculate a route, check the status of a line, recharge your Navigo pass or buy a metro ticket directly from your smartphone… Since the start of 2024, the Île-de-France Mobilités application has continued to gain in new features.

“The goal is really to be the reference platform for all users in Île-de-France, and that’s really what we are becoming.” analysis for Numerama Hélène Brisse, the digital director of Île-de-France Mobilités.

Driven by exceptional growth in 2024, Île-de-France Mobilités hopes to continue to convince Ile-de-France residents to trust it with several new features. For example, the integration of new forms of mobility (carpooling, cycling, etc.), the addition of artificial intelligence services or the arrival of the Liberté+ pass on smartphones in 2025.

A new map and an Olympic legacy

In November 2024, Île-de-France Mobilités deployed a new version of the card in its application.

On the program: a better display of lines, to help users find the nearest station, without having to use the search tool. “We have excellent user feedback” welcomes Alise Peyrot, head of the ticketing and services department. “Before, we only showed the icon of the station or bus stop without saying which line passed through there. Now, we display the line according to the zoom level, with a whole strategy to try to keep everything fluid and clear. »

If this new feature was not finalized in time for the Olympic Games, other additions are the direct consequence of 2024. Hélène Brisse highlights in particular the translation of the application into many languages, “but above all an in-depth evolution of the route calculator, which is the real engine of the application”.

Since the end of spring 2024, the Île-de-France Mobilité application has had the most efficient system for recommending a journey, with the possibility of personalizing the experience of each traveler. “We will soon be able to offer the user different routes based on their preferences, for example a less frequented route but a little longer”all with real-time data on traffic conditions. “All this was made possible by the impetus of the Games”concludes IdFM’s digital director.

Becoming the number 1 app for public transport in Paris: an impossible dream?

During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Île-de-France Mobilités chose a separate application, Transport Public Paris 2024, to target tourists. A missed opportunity to boost your number of downloads? Hélène Brisse, who admits to having questioned the question, does not regret her choice: “ It was clearer in terms of communication, and it showed the complementarity with the Olympic titles. »

Now disconnected, the Transport Public Paris 2024 application has, despite itself, caused a boost in downloads. “We saw a 70% increase in our users in one year and more than 110% growth in downloads,” reveals Alise Peyrot to Numerama.

With more than 620,000 downloads in one year, Île-de-France Mobilités is in brilliant health, which it owes in particular to the arrival of metro tickets and the Navigo pass on iPhone. “We have completely reversed the purchasing curve since the switch with Apple: we have more digital purchases than physical ones, in particular to recharge your pass or to store your Navigo directly on the phone”says Hélène Brisse. The advantage of the service is that it “drains a significant number of regular users”.

Does Île-de-France Mobilités have the means to compete with giants like Google, Apple or Citymapper? “At the Île-de-France scale, Citymapper is used more in the heart of Paris, while we cover the entire region, including the Greater Crown, with more intermodality”indicates IDFM. The official application for Parisian public transport is already in the “top 2 or top 3” Today.

Navigo Liberté+ and AI: other new features planned for 2025

Since January 1, 2025, the Île-de-France Mobilités application has included the new prices for public transport in Paris. In spring 2025, she will gain the possibility of generating a virtual Liberté+ pass, to use her smartphone as a transport card. The subscription process will be directly integrated into the application, which will also allow you to track your journey history.

In addition to this major project, other ideas are on the program. “We are working on an autonomous agent, not just a chatbot, who will be able to use natural language to find the right route, the right price and offer the best option”reveals Hélène Brisse to Numerama. AI could also be used to translate complicated information.

Finally, other projects are planned for 2025, such as the integration of the application at bus stop terminals or the integration of bicycle or carpooling routes, to no longer have to change software between two journeys. Île-de-France Mobilités dreams of being the ultimate mapping application.
