The latter tells us that the official diplomatic letter arrived during the last holidays: “ Our project is to open up, from books, to other cultural sectors “, he defends. Thus, Moroccan cinema has a real chance of being integrated into the programming.
This collaboration marks the return of the book festival to the Grand Palais, a first since 1993.
The official announcement of this participation was planned for the end of this week. The specific programming of the event is still being finalized. On January 15, the organizers intend to provide a more global vision of this next edition.
The Paris Book Festival, successor to the Book Fair since 2021, hopes to attract more than 100,000 visitors, surpassing the number of the previous year and selling as many books during the three days of the event, now enlarged by a third compared to the ephemeral Grand Palais, where the first three editions took place.
It is already planned that the pavilion of honor, under the glass roofs of the Grand Palais, will welcome the Moroccan delegation. Morocco’s last participation, as guest of honor, dates back to 2017.
Pierre-Yves Bérenguer took up his position as General Director of Paris Livres Événements, in charge of the Paris Book Festival, for the 2024 edition. He previously served, among other things, as head of cultural operations of Paris 2024, from 2019 to 2022. He also coordinated the exhibition Fly, Sail, Travel – Louis Vuitton in 2015, and the celebration of 500 years of Le Havre in 2017.
The 2024 edition, free for those under 25, highlighted Quebec, bringing together 329 authors during 160 meetings. Initially, the Congo Basin – including Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon – was planned as the guest of honor, but was replaced by the Canadian province French-speaking.
