Accordion music, gifts, everything came together to make this Saturday June 29 a great celebration at the Korian Le Baron nursing home in the Madeleine district of Orléans. The establishment, which houses 95 residents, celebrated its seven centenarians, the oldest members of the house. Their names are Antoinette (103 years old), Elisabeth (102 years old), Simone (100 years old) or Paulette (108 years old, she is the oldest of Orléans, and most certainly of Loiret).

“I’m still in good shape even though I can’t see very well anymore, I’m lucky to have all my wits about me, I’m surprised that there are so many centenarians.” says Andrée, 102 years old, who enjoys her meal to music. She lived in Gien for almost 40 years then came to Orléans. His daughter, Maud, is impressed by all these doyennes “It’s always moving in this world there are people who are still holding on to life or fighting to hold on.”

Chantal, 101 years old, has always lived in Loiret, in Ardon where she spent her childhood and where she remained with her family during the Second World Warthen to Orléans, a city she never left again “and which I know by heart, it is a very beautiful city now, which I love with the Loire. I studied in Orléans then I became a secretary, I had friends with whom I went out regularly and many still call me.” says Chantal.

“It’s a way of saying that we care about our elders”

For the establishment, which organizes this day dedicated to centenarians every year, it is a very symbolic gesture: “It’s memory, memories, a transmission to the new generation, with our teams”, says Sabah Amrani, director of the establishment. “The idea is to honor our centenarians, it’s a way of saying that we care about our elders. It’s exceptional to have seven centenarians in our establishment, sometimes they speak little but with a a look, a smile, it says a lot and it’s very important.”

This very closed club in the establishment will soon open to new people like Anne-Marie Denise, who will blow out his 100th candle in a few days. “I feel good, we are well surrounded and we have what we need, we can’t complain. The secret of my energy? I don’t know, it must be a family secret!” We will therefore have to wait a little longer to discover the secret of longevity.
