A feature awaited for years
It was so obvious that we even wonder why we had to wait until 2024 to see such a feature arrive. As a reminder, WhatsApp is easily considered one of the most popular messaging applications on the market, which also allows you to make audio or video calls to your contacts. But this is the main problem encountered by many users for years now: to be able to call someone on WhatsApp, it was until now absolutely necessary to have saved the contact in the smartphone.

It was therefore impossible to make a call from the app if you only have a phone number and it is not saved in your contact book. According to a report by WABetaInfo, various users can now access a new button in WhatsApp’s Call function, which essentially allows you to dial a number not saved in the app. Users can then add this number as a new contact or add it to an existing contact card if they wish.

Obvious, practical and more secure
This new feature brings many advantages. From now on, you no longer need to use the Telephone function of your smartphone to make a call to a person for whom you only have the telephone number, without having added it to your contacts (a process which could prove more difficult). tedious). Furthermore, this change ultimately turns out to be positive from the side of data security as well: the numbers stored in the number book are aware of the user’s latest status, have access to their profile photo and other personal informations. In other words, since it is no longer necessary to add a contact to your contact list, the people you wish to call sporadically will no longer have access to this private data.
At the moment, this change is only accessible to certain beta testers, who have updated their application to version 2.24.13.17. There is no doubt, however, that this highly anticipated feature should soon be available to all users.
