Former President of the Spanish Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, declared that Morocco, Spain and Portugal are working together to successfully organize the 2030 World Cup, expressing hope that this competition will be an opportunity for promote world peace.

During his speech on the occasion of the opening of the Human Rights Forum, entitled “Morocco – Spain – Portugal: A rich past for a promising future”, which is being held on the sidelines of the Gnaoua Festival this Friday morning, Zapatero stressed that peace and proximity between peoples are the challenges that humanity has faced throughout its history. “We are living in a historic moment and we must defend human rights. We have evolved technologically but these efforts are not being used to bring peace throughout the world, while humanity is currently heading towards wars,” did he declare.

The former President of the Spanish government also praised the strong relationship between Morocco and Spain, describing it as not only a commercial and economic relationship but also one of respect…

and mutual appreciation between the two peoples. He explained that the history of Spain cannot be understood without Morocco and the Arab world, and vice versa, due to the reciprocal imprints left by the two cultures on each other.

Zapatero also called for preserving and strengthening this positive legacy so that it can serve as a model in Europe and the world. He stressed the importance of cooperation with Africa and Asia to address the challenges and solve the problems facing these regions.

Concluding his speech, the Spanish politician expressed his great admiration for Morocco and its hospitality, highlighting his frequent visits to the country and his participation in cultural and artistic events that reflect the richness and diversity of Moroccan culture.

This statement comes at a time when Moroccan-Spanish relations are experiencing positive development, with increased efforts to strengthen cooperation in various fields, thus contributing to the promotion of peace and stability in the region.
