Tribunal

The brilliant Lorraine de Sagazan (author with Guillaume Poix and director) continues her cycle of fiction inspired by testimonies, after “La Vie invisible” on blind people and “Un coronation” on mourning rituals. Under a marquee as a makeshift court, this time it is justice that she explores, and in particular the procedures for immediate appearance.

“Leviathan,” from July 15 to 21.

Chorale

To the shattering noise of weapons, which stifles the complaints of victims and refugees at the gates of Europe, contrast the singing of a choir and sensitive testimonies. This is the objective of Polish director Marta Gornicka, who brings together on stage twenty-one Polish, Belarusian and Ukrainian women, with powerful vital energy.

“Mothers, a song for wartime”, from July 9 to 11.

Bataille

In a score that combines tragedy by Euripides and contemporary text, Elsa Lepoivre plays Hecuba, former queen of Troy, and Nadia, the actress who will play her on stage. Two women fighting for their children. This subtle mise en abyme orchestrated by Tiago Rodrigues, director of the festival, marks the return of the Comédie-Française troupe to Avignon, notably with Denis Podalydès and Loïc Corbery.

“Hecuba, not Hecuba,” from June 30 to July 16.

Weddings

Through the destiny of a wedding dress commissioned by the Princess of England from a famous haute couture house, the author and director Caroline Guiela Nguyen also follows those of the artisans who create it, between France and India. A fresco that also shows the violence at work, behind the age-old craftsmanship. Under the lace, the tears…

“Lacrima”, from July 1st to 11th.

Funeral

The sultry Spanish actress Angélica Liddell pays homage to the filmmaker Ingmar Bergman by imagining his funeral and inviting ghosts and demons.

After “La Casa de la Fuerza” and “L’Année de Richard”, she should once again create an event in the Cour d’honneur by bringing together the troupe of the Dramaten of Stockholm, the artists of her company and amateurs from Avignon.

“Damon, el funeral de bergman”, from June 29 to July 5, with French surtitles.
