Alexis Pinturault is giving up the Alpine Ski World Cup stage in Wengen (Switzerland), scheduled for January 17 and 18, where he seriously injured his left knee last year, to better prepare for the rest of his season .
“The rest of the program will be training to prepare Kitzbühel for super-G”race scheduled for Friday January 24, then “the giant of Schladming” on January 28, explained the Savoyard this Sunday, January 12 after his 12th place in the giant of Adelboden (Switzerland).
Even if the winner of the big crystal globe 2021 finished 2 seconds 58 behind the winner, the Swiss Marco Odermatt, this is his best result in the discipline this season, one year to the day after the most serious injury of his career.
When landing a jump in the super-G in Wengen last year, the Courchevel skier ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. And although he returned to competition in the fall, he still needs “a little more kilometers, a little more confidence” to fully let go in the race, he underlined.
“And so, I will not go to Wengen in super-G”continued Pinturault, without mentioning the moment of a possible return to downhill, while switching to long skis was the major objective of his last season before his injury.
Since the American stage of Beaver Creek, where he finished 10th in the super-G won by Marco Odermatt on December 7, he has had “zero days of training in this discipline”he recalled, and had to give up the super-G in Bormio at the end of December because he was ill.
