The multiple local hats of the new Minister of Transport, Philippe Tabarot, at the heart of a judicial investigation

Until his appointment as Minister of Transport, on December 23, 2024, Philippe Tabarot exercised a discreet function, on the sidelines of his mandate as senator of the Alpes-Maritimes: the member of the Les Républicains (LR) party, 54, was also “mission manager” within the “public interest group [GIP] for the tourist and cultural development of the town of Cannet ». Located north of (Alpes-Maritimes), this town of 40,000 inhabitants is the stronghold of the Tabarot family, of which Philippe’s sister, LR MP Michèle Tabarot, was mayor from 1995 to 2017 – she is still the head of the municipal majority and the essential local figure. As city councilor, she had chosen her brother to be her chief of staff.

This position of “mission manager” at the city’s tourist and cultural GIP, Philippe Tabarot did not occupy it full time, but at 70%, he indicates to Monde, without specifying the amount of his remuneration. According to his declaration of interests with the High Authority for Transparency in Public Life (HATVP), registered on November 30, 2020, this job earned him 17,997 euros net between August and November 2020, or nearly 4,500 euros per month. Before that, from April 2018 to July 2020, he had been the director of this same GIP. For a salary of 82,473 euros net in 2019, or almost 6,900 euros per month.
