Météo-France placed 34 departments on yellow “severe cold” alert on Monday January 13. Freezing temperatures will continue throughout France until Wednesday January 15.
Coolness and negative temperatures are settling in over a large part of the territory this week. In its bulletin of Monday January 13, Météo-France placed 34 departments on yellow “severe cold” vigilance, for the first time since the start of winter. Two departments, Oise and Aisne, are also placed on orange “flood” alert.
In this context, the meteorological agency warns the French and reminds that “extreme cold vigilance informs the authorities and the population about cold waves likely to have a health impact, and recalls the advice established by public authorities to protect themselves“. For the yellow alertness level, “it can be a cold peak, that is to say a short cold episode (one to two days), or a persistent cold episode“, also specifies Météo-France.
Between -5 and -10 degrees at night over a large part of France
“Very cold” vigilance is divided into three distinct levels: yellow when the thermometer reaches between -5 and -10 degrees at night, orange when it reaches between -10 and -18 degrees and finally red when temperatures are lower than -18 degrees. On the night of Sunday January 12 to Monday January 13, it was – 10 degrees in certain towns such as the Laguiole ski resort and Brameloup, – 9.5 degrees in Vibal, – 9 degrees in Pont-de-Salars and in Salles-Curan or – 7°C in Saint-Georges de Luzençon.
