There has been talk of Domenico Tedesco’s dismissal for a while, but the German is still at the helm of the Red Devils. For Franky Van der Elst, Vincent Mannaert must end his contract to be able to get off to a good start in 2025.
“Given his role as technical director, everyone now looks to him, yes. It makes sense. But Mannaert won’t be able to do it alone, eh. He doesn’t play on the pitch,” says Van der Elst in Het Nieuwsblad.
Van der Elst says many people left the Belgian Union in a short time. He returns to the Nations League with Tedesco. “We entered the Nations League with a coach who knew that if there was money he would have already been fired, and with a technical director who knew he was in his final months,” explains Van der Elst.
Stability
“The ideal is different. It is time for someone to provide stability around the national team,” he adds. Finally, Van der Elst answers the question of whether Mannaert should start from scratch and fire Tedesco as coach of the Red Devils.
“I think that with the way things are evolving, we almost can’t do any other way. But if Mannaert said now that he continues with Tedesco, public opinion would not react well,” concludes Van der Elst on the situation of Tedesco and Mannaert with the Red Devils.
