On January 3, 2025, press photos show David Beckham in a white t-shirt attending an NBA game in Miami, where he owns the Inter Miami football club. Three days later, January 6, the former Manchester United footballer was photographed in a black coat at the entrance to Manchester Cathedral, accompanied by his parents, Sandra and Robert. The former English football star crossed the Atlantic to attend the funeral of a club employee, Kath Phipps, who died on December 5. But why did David Beckham come to the funeral of an 85-year-old receptionist?
He was not alone. Sir Alex Ferguson, his coach at the time and emblematic coach of the “Red Devils” from 1986 to 2013, was also there. With them, the entire current United team in club uniform, around thirty young people from the Academy, several representatives of the women’s team and numerous former players, including Roy Keane, Peter Schmeichel, Gary Neville, Gary Pallister , Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Denis Irwin, Bryan Robson, Brian Kidd. The funeral service was followed by the Daily Mail and was the subject of a live reporting on the BBC website.
