Formula 1 | Adami, Fiorano and Barcelona: the three key words of Hamilton’s debut at Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton will work well with Carlos Sainz’s former race engineer Riccardo Adami in his first season with Ferrari in in 2025.

Hamilton officially joined Ferrari on January 1, after announcing in February last year that he had signed a multi-year contract to join the Scuderia.

His long-time racing engineer, Peter Bonnington, did not follow him and even inherited a bigger role at Mercedes F1, being promoted to director of racing engineering. He is expected to continue his role as race engineer with Hamilton’s successor, Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

For his part, Adami, who previously worked as a race engineer for Sainz (2021-2024) and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel (2015-2020), received praise from the latter communicated directly to Hamilton, who had inquired about him in the spring of 2024, to best prepare for his arrival.

However, Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur had appeared to cast doubt on whether Adami would be Hamilton’s race engineer. “I don’t know. We’ll have to discuss it over the winter,” he said in Las Vegas.

But the confusion has been cleared up, Adami will indeed be Hamilton’s new race engineer.

The two men will discover each other in driving conditions at Fiorano on January 20 or 21 then during a 4-day session on the Barcelona circuit, reserved by the Scuderia. Dates are flexible to take advantage of the best possible weather.

These tests of an old F1 will allow it to do a maximum of 1000 kilometers over 4 days (the annual limit set for a full driver from 2025).

It is said that the Scuderia could also bring Hamilton’s first day to Fiorano live on its social networks.

Note that several people will follow Hamilton to Ferrari. His manager, Marc Hynes, of course, but also his personal photographer, his trainer, his security staff and at least one of the people who were responsible for his communications and public relations.
