Even if he no longer produces as consistently as during his best days with the Montreal Canadiens or the Vegas Golden Knights, forward Max Pacioretty still manages to make himself useful to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Currently on the second trio of his team with John Tavares and William Nylander, the former CH fulfills a new role for him: that of bringing energy to his teammates.

In fact, with 79 hits in 28 games, three fewer than agitator Ryan Reaves, Pacioretty is the Maple Leafs player with the highest average (2.82) hits per game for skaters with played more than 25 games this season.

This montage produced by the podcast Rink Rat Report also represents this new attitude of Pacioretty quite well.

Over a full 82-game campaign, he would have approximately 231 hits, thereby shattering his career high (119) established with the Golden Knights in 2018-2019. For comparison, he has maintained a hitting average of 1.32 since his debut in the National Hockey League.

The man who captained the Canadiens from 2015 to 2018 had to deal with some health problems this season, but he recently regained his place in the Queen City team, amassing five goals and seven assists for 12 points since the launch of the campaign.
