The young Aurillacois had a timid start to the season before establishing himself at the end of the year in the Cantal pack. Capable of playing second row and number 8, Maël Perrin wants even more.
It’s the time for love, the time for friends. In the middle of the Christmas holidays, the Aurillacois have put their crampons in the closet since the evening of December 20, and a solid victory against Dax. The opportunity for Maël Perrin to return to his native land, near Montpellier. “The staff gave us two weeks to return to our maximum capacity in a few days. It did me good to see the family again, we’re not letting go of everything but still, we’re regenerating. It’s good for me. head !”. Son of a former Nîmes player, the young third row was loaned by the MHR in the off-season to gain experience in Pro D2. Also capable of playing second row thanks to his size (1.95m; 118kgs), the Bleuet led his boat with patience in the Aurillac city. “At the start of the season, I was a little disappointed not to have more playing time, but the staff explained to me in detail the reasons. I find it healthy, I remember that I am only twenty years, but at the end of the year I managed to continue, notably by starting in 8 against Valence-Romans” remembers the native of Hérault. If Maël Perrin waited until October 11 to make his first start in red and blue, the versatile third row has since gained depth in a position that is denser than ever.
“I’m reviewing the key combinations at both positions”
From Didier Tison to Eoghan Masteron via the bomb Lucas Oudard, Maël Perrin has no shortage of competition and good advice to progress under the peaks of Lioran. “They constantly encourage us and give us a lot of leadership. For example, Martial Rolland is always behind me when I play second row. He never gives up. That makes the difference in the head, all the players are close and that is felt on the ground. Alongside Robert Rodgers and Axel Bévia, who also passed through Montpellier, the young number 8 had no trouble integrating, even if he had to understand the specificities of the two positions. “I review the key combinations for both positions, the staff often comes to see me at the start of the week depending on my position in the weekend’s match. I analyze and watch my opponents a lot depending on the position” affirms Perrin, whose ambition is to progress in the offensive game at Stade Aurillacois. Number 8 from Montpellier is still too “soft” for his taste. “In this second part of the season, I will have to touch a few more balls because I haven’t been seen too much in attack. I will also have to show my dueling qualities against opponents, by being more dominant.” Progress which will be monitored by Joan Caudullo and the MHR staff who discuss Perrin’s evolution every week… and his two jobs.
