Moroccan students from Ukraine: numerous equivalence files pending

Having barely emerged from a standoff with medical students, the Ministry of Higher Education finds itself confronted with another complex problem: the equivalence of the diplomas of Moroccan students who have started courses in engineering and medicine in Ukraine , before being forced to return to Morocco because of the war between kyiv and Moscow.

Many of these students, who continued their studies online, have completed their academic career. However, the approval of their diplomas remains uncertain, according to the daily Assaba in its edition of Tuesday January 7. Without this recognition, it is impossible for them to enter the job market. Added to this is another difficulty: the need to find internships to validate their academic curriculum.

Grouped together in an association, the parents of the students concerned recently sounded the alarm to the competent authorities. They call in particular to reduce the duration of required internships, in order to facilitate access. They also insist on the urgency of granting financial compensation to students during their internships and of improving supervision conditions.

This problem has persisted for three years now, reports Assabawithout any concrete solution being provided. This situation arises, ironically, “at a time when Morocco is seriously lacking engineers and doctors“, we can read. In a recent press release, the parents denounce “the absence of a clear vision to resolve this sensitive issue”, which aggravates the difficulties of students and their families.

At the beginning of October 2024, of the 1,162 equivalence files submitted by Moroccan students returning from Ukraine, only 248 had been processed, i.e. a rate of 22%. For the students concerned, solving this problem is now a national imperative that can no longer be postponed.
