Around thirty farmers left their farms at 5 a.m. with around ten tractors and full skips this Tuesday, January 7 to carry out a striking action in front of the departmental labor directorate in Gap, in reaction to Monday's blockage of the convoy of the rural coordination trying to go to Paris to demonstrate. Between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., they unloaded their products in front of state services. Rotten apples, rotten hay, straw, wool…

Operators from the Rural Coordination carried out a fist-fighting action in the early morning in front of the departmental labor directorate in Gap in solidarity with the farmers prevented from demonstrating in Paris on Monday.

“There are farmers who were fined, and some arrested, because they were wearing a yellow hat, there were fines of 135 euros, so we reaffirmed the right to demonstrate in solidarity with our colleagues who are fined in Paris”, explains Serge Jousselme, head of rural coordination in the Hautes-Alpes.

The Upper Alpine farmers have not planned any other future actions but they are determined to make themselves heard if Minister Annie Genevard remains deaf to their demands. As the electoral campaign begins in the chambers of agriculture, the “yellow hats” of the second agricultural union remain mobilized against the Mercosur free trade agreements, unfair competition, including intra-European, and controls on farms .
