For the return of Ligue 1, the Aiglons did the work on their lawn to win against Rennes in a prolific encounter (3-2).
Successful return from Ligue 1. Between the two playing teams facing the Allianz Riviera, action quickly erupted between Nice and Rennes. A lively duel which turned to the advantage of OGC Nice, winner this Friday against Stade Rennais (3-2), during the 16th day of Ligue 1.
A lively first half
It's rather rare to be underlined, the two teams gave us a lively first half with 4 goals scored in 45 minutes. The match got off to a flying start from the kick-off. If Mandanda initially showed himself imperial on the first alerts of the Aiglons (8th, 9th), he was unable to do anything on a goal from Evan Guessand, the man in good form for Nice, seventh goal of the season for the former Nantes resident. Rennes did not let themselves be discouraged and quickly came back to match the locals with a goal from Kalimuendo (27th). Ideally served by Ludovic Blas, the former Parisian titi also scored his seventh goal. Much better and more and more pressing Rennes shot themselves in the foot by giving Rennes a goal.
Through Mandanda, Sofiane Diop was quick to convert a gift offered by the former French international. In the midst of turmoil over his future in Rennes' goals, the former OM goalkeeper did not prove his coach wrong by missing his restart leading to the second goal for OGC Nice (34th). Stunned, Rennes was punished again in added time. In a new stroke of genius from Guessand, Laborde allowed his team to take the break before returning to the locker room (45th + 5)
New defeat for Rennes for the first minutes for Fofana
If it started the second act in the best way by scoring from the start thanks to Adrien Truffert (49th), Stade Rennais was unable to come back to match its opponent despite the expulsion of Rosario at the end of the match (90th).
A match marked by the return of a former Ligue 1 resident. After two years in Saudi Arabia on the side of Al Nassr, the former Lensois Seko Fofana once again set foot on a Ligue 1 pitch. Not really in his legs, entered in the 64th minute, he had no influence in the Rennes midfield and had difficulty showing himself. As a reminder, the 29-year-old Ivorian was recruited for 20 million euros.
With this success, Nice is provisionally 4th with 27 points and a better difference than Lille (5th) and two points ahead of Lyon, which hosts Montpellier this Saturday. Rennes is starting 2025 in a very bad way and remains 12th, 8 points behind the European places.
