Racing Genk closed 2024 as leaders of the Jupiler Pro League. The Limburgers hope to celebrate the championship title at the end of the season, but it is also structurally that the year 2025 will be crucial.
Racing Genk are leaders of the Jupiler Pro League and are still in the running in the Croky Cup. Peter Croonen is therefore a satisfied president. “Genk has always aligned its sporting ambitions with financial reality,” he said in the columns of Importance of Limburgat the end of the year.
“In this way, it has never been necessary to attract external capital. There are only two profitable clubs in Belgium: Racing Genk and Club Brugge,” continued the Limburg strongman.
Genk seeks capital increase
Still registered as a non-profit organization, KRC Genk will undergo a major transformation next year. “During 2025, all football activities will be consolidated into a limited company (SA). This way we will be able to attract external investors for our plan.”
“We plan to build a new training center,” continues the president. “But that’s not all. We also want to build a stadium for the U23s and KRC Genk Ladies. And on top of that, we want to prepare the Cegeka Arena for the next twenty to fifty years.”
Racing Genk wants to remain a high-level club in Belgium”
“For this last point, we are therefore looking for an external investor,” concludes Croonen. “We estimate we need around 45 to 50 million euros. The aim is to start the renovation work in 2030. In this way, Genk wants to remain a top club sustainably in Belgium.”
