Konstantinos Karetsas’ competitor is actually one of his greatest allies: “Like a kind of father figure” – All football

Konstantinos Karetsas continues to progress at Genk. His teammates are very present to help him get his bearings, in particular Patrik Hrosovsky.

Konstantinos Karetsas turned 17 last month and has already made 21 appearances for the first team. Although he still alternates between the bench and the starting eleven, his extraordinary talent is evident.

After starting (and scoring his very first goal in D1A) against Anderlecht, he gave way to Patrik Hrosovsky against Antwerp. The coach Thorsten Fink rotates his midfield a lot, Karetsas is sometimes ‘sacrificed’ to provide a little more balance.

The wonderkid takes all this with great maturity. At 32, Hrosovsky is almost twice his age and gives him plenty of advice. The Slovak international has still played 64 European matches (he was already present when Genk was still playing the group stage of the Champions League under Felice Mazzu), his experience is valuable in guiding Karetsas.

Already six goals for Hrosovsky this season

“My relationship with Patrik is very good. I don’t see him as a competitor, but rather as a kind of father figure,” explains Karetsas. “I can learn a lot from the way he puts himself in a good position in front of goal. We are two different types of players, who can be used at different times. There is a good rotation,” he continues. Karetsas accepts it all the more since the team is performing perfectly.

“The first place is really deserved. We have already shown almost all the teams that we can play very good football. Now we have to continue the momentum until the Playoffs, because a lot can still happen there. So we have to take as many points as possible.” After scoring his first goal with core A, Konstantinos Karetsas seems liberated in any case. Will it continue its momentum in 2025?
