After a rough first stage, marked by the victory of Frenchman Romain Bardet, the sprinters still have to wait, during this second day of racing, between Cesenatico and Bologna, Sunday July 30. The second stage of the Tour de France 2024, 199.2 kilometers long, presents six difficulties, including the Gallisterna coast, where the Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe won his first 2020 world champion title.
As in the first stage, which finished in the city of his death (Rimini), Marco Pantani, winner of the Tour de France in 1998, will be honored. In addition to a port overlooking the Adriatic, Cesenatico, a town in Emilia-Romagna, has a museum in homage to The pirate (“Le Pirate”).
The punchers, even the favorites, are expected in the last part of the race. The first 140 kilometers are relatively flat and the San Luca hill (2 kilometers at 10.6%), referenced in category 3, will be crossed twice. At its summit, located 12.6 kilometers from the finish, the first three will respectively collect eight, five and two bonus seconds. The stage victory could be decided in this final climb.
