France must be content with second place in Group D of Euro 2024. The Blues failed to bring down Poland, although they were eliminated (1-1). After the meeting, Didier Deschamps was somewhat disillusioned.
First place in group D was not far away for the French team. Due to the Netherlands’ defeat against Austria, the Blues only had to win against an already eliminated Poland to do so. Kylian Mbappé’s teammates, however, had to settle for a parity score (1-1). After the meeting, at the microphone of TF1Didier Deschamps returned to this poor performance:
“I’m not frustrated. The goal was to take first place, but we had to win. From the moment we don’t win, we have to accept it. We did the right thing, we had some opportunities. We have to appreciate what we have done. The first objective has been achieved even if we don’t have the place we wanted. We could have done better, even. if the goalkeeper made some good saves, we weren’t able to take cover.”
France now has an idea of the nation it will meet in the round of 16 of Euro 2024. The Blues will face the second in Group E, Belgium.
