Present at a press conference this Saturday, Ibrahima Konaté was questioned about the legislative elections which are coming up this Sunday in France. The Liverpool defender wanted to send a message by reminding us that we should not divide ourselves, on the contrary, and that we must try to ease the tensions that arise through social networks.

“It worries me. We cannot leave power to certain people who want to divide people. I come from an immigrant family. When I hear TV and social networks, I think that the media have a very important role and unfortunately sometimes, they don’t do it well, because they ride on fear. When I see my parents and the jobs they have. We must not take only the harmful side and forget the rest. My parents had difficult jobs, garbage collector and cleaner, with impossible hours. Seeing how people talk about them saddens me. We talk a lot about immigration and Islam. These are the topics every time. That we want to ban the wearing of the veil by women in public spaces. We never give those affected a voice, we always speak on their behalf. I think France is a magnificent country. I think people are at home watching TV and being influenced. Some people have also had negative experiences with a minority that does not concern the majority. Behind appearances and skin color, religion, there are hearts. You can’t make a puzzle with the same pieces. You have to go vote, life is beautiful, it is short. I prefer to enjoy it all together. »
