Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) recently made significant management changes, with Taïchi Honda and Shin Sato replacing Kuwata and Kokubu. As part of the reorganization, HRC will hire Grand Prix rider and Aprilia star Aleix Espargaró as test rider for 2025. This news has raised questions about the future of test rider Stefan Bradl experienced Honda rider, aged 34, with seven Grand Prix victories to his name.
Stefan Bradlwho finished second at the Laguna Seca MotoGP in 2013, shared his thoughts on this situation: “ I haven’t had any sleepless nights, but of course,
certain thoughts come to mind when major changes occur at the highest level of HRC leadership. The results of recent years leave much to be desired. We tested many new parts and components, but were unable to improve performance as hoped. However, HRC and the testing team always confirmed that my work was up to parand I received positive feedback not only from other pilots but also from experienced technicians and engineers. »
He adds : ” from the start of the year it was clear that they were looking for a second test pilot, and I wondered what this would mean for my position.. At the Spanish Grand Prix, rumors began to multiply. I asked HRC management what this change would mean for me and
we quickly found a new verbal agreement for two additional years. »
Stefan Bradl : « I’m a Honda man and always have been, I’ll be a test rider at HRC for another two years, no problem »
Bradl continues by explaining: “ although I have worked closely with Kuwata for many years, the new managers obviously wanted to know me before making a decision. All discussions were very positive. I’m a Honda man and always have been. I raced for them for three years from 2012 to 2014 at LCR Honda after leaving Moto2, and now have a contract with HRC for the eighth year. Even in times of difficulty, I want to continue to bring my experience to help Honda reach a better level in MotoGP. »
« I haven’t signed the new contract yet, but it is currently being finalized. I am confident that I will be a test pilot at HRC for another two years, no problem », concludes Bradl on GPOne.
