Wimbledon > Dimitrov, after his first round victory: “I’ve never tried alcohol so I don’t know. But I want to make it clear: if I’m aging like fine wine, it’s not a coincidence”

During the on-court interview after his victory against Dusan Lajovic (6-3, 6-4, 7-5) in the first round of Wimbledon, Grigor Dimitrov made a declaration of love for tennis, rejoicing that all his efforts continue to pay off.

Question : “If I counted correctly, it’s your 14the Wimbledon. You are also in the top 10 again. Is it fair to say that you are aging like good wine? »

Dimitrov : “I’ve never tried alcohol so I don’t know, but if you say so!” Lately, I get asked this question a lot. I want to make things clear. It is not a coincidence. I’ve been there before. We work a lot throughout the years. You never know when you can reap your work. I am very grateful for the situation I am in right now. I enjoy every match I play, whether I win or lose. Losing hurts a lot more than it did ten years ago. So I don’t want to lose. I fight as much as I can. I do everything the best I can. I have no regrets. Whether it’s 33, 35 or 37, who knows if I’ll still be playing then. I more than happy to play for myself. But also for you. Thank you very much for supporting me throughout these years. »

In the second round, the 33-year-old Bulgarian will face the Chinese Shang, who defeated Cristian Garin in three sets.
