Faced with violence in stadiums, the football district bans all weekend matches

Since the start of the season, incivility and violence have been on the rise in stadiums in the department, according to information from the Courrier Picard. Indeed, the football district noted numerous episodes of insults, field invasion and racist and homophobic remarks.

Faced with this intolerable behavior, the institution has decided to ban all training and all matches planned in the department, between Friday and Monday.

A situation deemed “worrying”

This unprecedented decision was voted unanimously by the institution’s steering committee on Monday. For Pascal Tranquille, the president of the Somme district, “the situation in departmental football is worrying”. In a letter he sent to the clubs, the latter regrets that “events are corrupting” sporting practice, despite the multiple “prevention messages” sent by the district to the attention of players and supporters.

The latter added that the steering committee made this decision because it did not intend to “wait for a serious attack from a referee, a player, a spectator, a manager, to react”. On the other hand, clubs belonging to the French Football Federation and the Hauts-de- League are not affected by these measures.
