Civil society, anti-globalization activists, scientists, all note that the planet is saturated with waste and alert states to the need to move towards another model of consumption. Some did not wait to take action, this is the case of the Repair Café de Gourdon, at the forefront of what is now a model to follow and which is even put forward by the government : the need for objects with several lives.
It is in this context that the Repair Café was born in 2019, it now has more than 200 members and, on opening days, the workshop is always full. To date, the Repair Café has ten volunteers. The principle of the association is to operate thanks to donations and memberships: you like a repaired object, give what you want and take it away.
There is another precursor called The Repair Café Foundation, created in 2010, and supported by MAIF. This Wednesday, November 20, Bernard Cros, representative of the Repair Café France Foundation, traveled to Gourdon with Valérie Laurenson, also representative, and Laurence Vieu, advisor, to visit the premises and get to know the Repair Café team.
Bernard Cros detailed the role of the foundation: “Repair rather than throw away, is our slogan; we raise awareness among our members and the general public of the impact of our behavior and our consumption patterns, and above all, we bring together the Repair movement Café France. With MAIF, the foundation is committed to the field of the circular economy by contributing to the construction of a more united society through its activities. The ecological dividend contributes 10% of annual profits. financing of projects around the environment and biodiversity”. Bernard Cros added: “The main principles are to save raw materials and limit waste by giving objects a second life. In this way we promote repair rather than waste, and that is what the Repair Café does by Gourdon.
The Repair Café team has grown in number of volunteers, here they are mentioned by their first name: José, Thierry, Francis, Eric, Jean-Jacques, Marc, Lionel, Daniel and Gérard. On the other hand, the association lacks space and is appealing to those who know of a larger location: call the Repair Café on 05 81 25 20 22 or 07 52 05 34 37. Email: repair.cafe.gourdon.en.
