The succession of the president of Swiss Olympic, Jürg Stahl, will be decided by three people. Former judoka Sergei Aschwanden is also running for this election.
Before Aschwanden, former federal councilor Ruth Metzler-Arnold and Markus Wolf, former director of Swiss-Ski, had announced their candidacy. At 48, Aschwanden is a very busy man, even after his retirement from sports, taken 3 months after winning the bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. He is director of the Porte des Alpes tourist office, president of the Swiss judo federation and seat on the Grand Conseil Vaudois under the PLR banner.
“Sport is my whole life”
The Vaudois explained the reasons for his candidacy to “L’Illustré” and “Blick”. “Sport is my whole lifehe explains. I learned that some people would like to see me at the head of Swiss Olympic. After careful consideration and numerous consultations, I have decided to run in this election.“
Jürg Stahl, president of the sports umbrella association for 7 years, is stepping down due to the limitation on the duration of his mandate. His successor will be elected by the Sports Parliament at the next ordinary meeting, on November 22, at the Maison du Sport in Ittigen.
