The Wijnegem veterans played their first match of the season on Friday evening. Despite the 4-7 defeat against Saint-Job, Ritchie De Laet had an excellent debut.

Ritchie De Laet came on and scored two goals for Wijnegem. Unfortunately for him, it was not enough to avoid the defeat of his colors, but the defender, retired since last June, certainly had fun.

According to Gazet van Antwerpen, De Laet played the right winger position. Despite the defeat, the fans were satisfied with the Belgian’s performance.

Ritchie De Laet was very excited to get back on the pitch. “I had to find my second wind a bit, but I had fun. The level suits me very well. I’m here to have fun.”

At the end of the season, the defender retired from professional football. Since then, De Laet has remained active at Antwerp, but in a different role. He now supervises young Antwerp players within the club’s U16 and U23 teams.

In total, the defender played 219 matches for the Great Old. With Antwerp he won the league title and the Belgian Cup twice.
