It will be from February 1 to 14, 2027! 1000 days before the opening ceremony of the 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships, the organizing committee unveils the dates of this great sporting celebration. “A thousand days may seem like a long time ago, but in reality, it’s relatively short for a project of this scale and importance. In recent weeks, a solid team has been put in place and we are moving in the right direction,” explains Didier Défago, general director of these Worlds. On the side of the Municipality of Crans-Montana, which is leading the work at the arrival stage of the National, things are also progressing well.

Huge challenge for businesses

The bulk of the work at the Nationale stadium will focus on 2025, from March and without interruption: a real challenge for all the companies involved in this project! The basement being a real spider’s web, work will be undertaken this spring, in order to restore order to these pipes, optical fibers and other low, medium and high voltage electrical cables.

In a few weeks, rock mining above the arrival building will be carried out, the first step in securing the wall to the west of the stadium: in fact, the recently updated danger map classifies this sector as risk areas, with potential rock falls.

If the modification of the route of the La Vanire torrent will be done in 2025, a first section will be refurbished already this year. And this spring the project led by the Canton of Valais will begin for the construction of the Étoile roundabout, at the start of the Route des Barzettes leading to the finish stage of the Nationale.

Expanded Worlds Staff

As for the organizers of the Worlds, the organization chart has been expanded and new department heads have joined the team, like Yves Mittaz, Sophie Genoud, Angelo Maina, Grégory Saudan, Magalie Perren and Pierre Favre. All very experienced in the field of major events and sport, these key people will undoubtedly contribute to the realization and success of Crans-Montana 2027.

Schoolchildren’s competition for the mascot

Crans-Montana 2027 wishes to mobilize young people around winter sports and have them actively participate in the development of these World Championships. Thus, a competition was launched among students aged 5 to 8 in the Canton of Valais to draw the World Cup mascot. This will be officially presented to the public during the 2025 competitions and will bring a fun, engaging and symbolic dimension to these World Championships.
