CAN 2025 qualifiers-Morocco: program, schedules and issues for the 3rd and 4th days
CAN 2025 qualifiers-Morocco: program, schedules and issues for the 3rd and 4th days

The 3rd and 4th days of the CAN 2025 qualifiers which are taking place in Morocco will be played over the period from October 9 to 15, 2025. These days will be decisive for many teams. We will have to wait until the 5th day, and perhaps even the final 6th day, to know all of the 24 teams who will play the final phase of the prestigious African competition.

In the meantime, the 3rd and 4th days of the qualifiers could reveal the first batch of qualified countries. Indeed, with these matches played back and forth, all the countries which total 6 points at the end of the first two days will be able to validate their qualification: Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Angola, Ivory Coast and DR Congo, all leaders of their group.

In Group B of Morocco, already qualified with 6 points, the battle for the second qualifying place is between the Central African Republic and Gabon who each have 3 points. While the Central African Republic faces Morocco in the next two matches, Gabon will have the chance to widen the gap by playing a double match against Lesotho, last in the group with 0 points.

Same case in group C where Egypt should compost its qualifying ticket after its double meetings with Mauritania which occupies 3rd place in the group on equal points with Cape Verde which has the possibility of breaking away against the modest team from Botswana which has 0 points and last in the group. In this group, all teams can qualify, even if Nigeria and Benin seem better positioned. We will have to wait at least until the 5th day to know the two qualifiers in the group.

At the level of Group E, if Algeria should qualify at the end of the 3rd and 4th days, the second place is open between the three protagonists: Equatorial Guinea, Togo and Liberia with a slight advantage for the country which manages to win the double duel between Equatorial Guinea and Liberia.

As for group F, Angola, which has 6 points, should qualify after its round trip against Niger. However, the Ghana-Sudan double confrontation will be fiercely contested for the second qualifying place. Sudan with 3 points leaves with a slight advantage against Ghana which only has one point.

Same situation at Group G level where Côte d’Ivoire has 6 points and should qualify after its double duel against Sierra Leone (1 point). Zambia, second in the group with 3 points, will have the opportunity to widen the gap with Sierra Leone during their double duel against Chad, last in the group with 1 point.

Same scenario in group H where the DRC, leader with 6 points, will face Tanzania, second with 4 points, will try to qualify at the end of the two matches while Tanzania will try to take the lead in the group before facing the Ethiopia (1 pt) and Guinea (0 pt). The latter will try to recover during its double confrontation against Ethiopia to hope for a very complicated qualification.

This is another scenario at Group I level where the first three keep their chances of qualifying. Mozambique (4 pts, +1), Mali (4 pts, +1) and Guinea-Bissau (3 pts, 0) each have a chance of qualifying. Mozambique, which hosts the last of the group, Eswatini, is better placed to make up its qualifying ticket during the 3rd and 4th days. Ditto for Mali who can qualify by achieving a flawless performance during their double confrontation against Guinea-Bissau. The latter must win at least one match or draw to stay in the race.

This is also the case for group J where Kenya and Cameroon, leaders with 4 points each, ahead of Zimbabwe (2 pts) and Namibia (0 pts) will face each other. The winner of the double confrontation will have a good chance of qualifying. Zimbabwe should take advantage of their double confrontation against Namibia to compete with the leading teams and maintain their chance of qualifying.

In group K, Uganda (4 pts, +2) and South Africa (4 pts, +1) who will respectively face Congo (3 pts, -1) and South Sudan (0 pts, -2) , will have the opportunity to validate their qualifications at the end of the 3rd and 4th days of the qualifiers.

Identical scenario in group L where Burkina Faso (4 pts, +2) and Senegal (4 pts, +1) will meet respectively Burundi (3 pts, 0) and Malawi (0 pts, -3). The two leaders can qualify if they win these double confrontations. Which is well within their reach.

Note that several countries will not be able to host their home matches due to a lack of approved stadiums. Two countries are expected to host a significant number of matches: Morocco and Ivory Coast. These countries are contacted by those who do not have stadiums approved by CAF. Ivory Coast, which has six quality stadiums built to host CAN 2023, is being approached by Guinea, Burundi, Ethiopia, Benin and Burkina Faso. Morocco is used to hosting matches from other African countries that do not have approved sports infrastructures.
