University football: A 32nd straight victory for the Carabins against the Redbirds

The Université de Montréal Carabins worked hard, but defeated the McGill Redbirds 38-28 on Friday evening at CEPSUM. This is a 32nd victory in a row against the Redbirds for the Carabins. The sequence began in 2003.

Guests of honor for the game, the former Carabins champions of the 2014 Vanier Cup had to wait until the second half to see the current team step on the accelerator. Safety Elijah Cramaix intercepted a pass and returned it to the end zone on the third play of the second half.

A few minutes later, Jonathan Sénécal, who was celebrating his 25th birthday, made his first touchdown pass to Enrique Jaimes Leclair. The first-year receiver brilliantly stood out to make it 27-20 in the 3rd quarter. The two players met for a second time later in the 4th quarter.

I loved that we talked to each other at halftime,” said Carabins head coach Marco Iadeluca. The challenge was to play at our level in the second half and I loved the team’s response.
However, it was in the first half that the Carabins scored their first touchdown. Thanks to a sequence of four consecutive passes, having led him to the opposing 1 line, Mathieu Barsalou scored his first major at the university level thanks to a convincing quarterback sneak.

Once again, Philippe Boyer was a force for the Blues. Boyer completed the match by scoring no less than 14 points.

On the defensive level, linebacker Mohamed Elshal particularly stood out with two quarterback sacks and four total tackles.

The Carabins’ next match has been anticipated since the start of the season as the Rouge et Or from University will visit next Saturday from 2 p.m. This duel will probably determine places 1 and 2 in the RSEQ rankings. All tickets have already been sold for the match.
